Reg Crawford is a graduate of the Officer Cadet School Portsea, The University of New England, The University of Canberra and The Australian Army Command and Staff College – the Army’s Masters level Leadership and Management Program.
Reg enjoyed a 22 year Army career that included operational service in Rwanda, East Timor and Iraq. He commanded units of up to 300 personnel including soldiers from Egypt, the UK and the USA. During his time in the Army, Reg gained extensive leadership and management experience. He served in the elite Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) for a greater part of his career. Reg also gained considerable experience acting as an advisor to the United Nations in New York and to senior State and Federal Government officers while working for the NSW Police Commissioner Mr. Peter Ryan during the Sydney Olympic Games. He was awarded the United States Bronze Star Medal for meritorious Service during the Iraq War.
Reg left the Army in 2005 and was invited by the President of the Collingwood Football Club, Mr. Eddie McGuire to conduct an organisational analysis of the football operations of the Club. Mr. McGuire subsequently asked Reg to accept a 12 month contract to implement the recommendations of this review and he was appointed Chief of Staff /General Manager, Football in October 2005. During his time at the club, Reg conducted an organisational review to improve the performance of the Football Department. Significant emphasis was placed improving communication between the key business units and developing a high performance strategic plan to guide implementation of changes. He oversaw implementation of strategies for elite player development, operational planning, staff development and developing a culture of elite performance.
In late 2006, Reg established his own specialist and unique Leadership, Team Development and High Performance consultancy. He is a highly skilled facilitator and coach to CEOs, senior management and Board members of varied organisations in business and sport. He has been utilised by listed companies, business schools and Olympic and World Championship sports to improve leadership, team development and high performance strategy. He has consulted to the Victorian and NSW Institutes of Sport on the development and implementation of Leadership Development and Team Building programs for elite athletes in rowing, netball and hockey and has also developed and facilitated leadership development and coaching programs for numerous clients including NAB, GMHBA, Barwon Health and NEC. He consults to the Melbourne Business School, Mt Eliza on Elite Team Development and has worked in association with other consulting firms, assisting in organisational review, strategic planning and facilitation of high performance programs for clients such as the Australian Sports Commission, Swimming Australia, Netball Australia, Melbourne Vixens, Volleyball Australia, Equestrian Australia and numerous public and private Health sector clients.
Reg has significant experience in consulting in major projects. This has included working with key executives in the Federal and State Health Departments to prepare the Mersey Hospital in North West Tasmania for handover to Federal Government control. Since 2008, Reg has been engaged as a consultant to the International Criminal Court, primarily in conducting reviews of the management of African field operations. In 2010-11, Reg assisted the Commander, Joint Health conduct a national level restructure and development of change management plans to implement new health support arrangements for the entire Australian Defence Force.
Reg is a Master Practitioner of the internationally renowned Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire Assessment and Development system and is an engaging and active motivational speaker on topics such as elite performance, elite team development, leadership and dealing with chaos and adversity. He has presented to the VIS, Barclays Capital (Singapore and Japan), IBM Global Services Australia, Johnson and Johnson and to numerous corporate programs and schools. He has co-authored a component of the Energy 4 Life corporate well-being program, providing subject matter expertise on Motivation, Attitude and Discipline.
